This remarkable country house - circa 1845 - offers a private setting at the end of a long tree lined lane in a great community with easy access to amenities. You enter the property driving through landscaped grounds complete with various species of mature trees and shrubs. Once you are within sight of the house the first thing that grabs your attention is the ornate porte cochere with its double columns and widow's walk above sheltering both the front entry and sun room access. Continuing along you'll see the side entrances with covered veranda and the enormous attached outbuilding that was once the carriage house but is now a three car garage, plus workshop with tons of additional space spread out over two levels.
The main entrance at the front opens into a grand eight foot wide foyer with the original massive hall mirror with gilded plaster frame and beautiful staircase that leads to the second level. The large (30' x 17') living room and 25' x 17' foot dining room are located to one side of the main hall. The front foyer, living and dining rooms have in-laid teak floors while most other floors are oak. The 24' x 14' sun room at the front has the original tiled floor. On the other side is the library / family room and the wood paneled den / office. A very charming powder room is tucked under the staircase. The kitchen, butler's pantry and mudroom are located towards the back of the house.
The landing on the second level is a large open space filled with natural light making it a great place for leisurely activities such as reading. Towards the front of the house are two very large bedrooms each with ensuite baths and one with a dressing room. Both have built-in wardrobe closets with handcrafted drawers. There are an additional three good sized bedrooms, full bath, and storage closets on this level.
Other architectural features include crown mouldings, baseboards, and wainscoting. There are original crystal chandeliers, wall sconces, and doorknobs to be found throughout the house.
This is a house with an interesting history, tons of character, loads of space, and lots of stories to tell.
